Mrs. Buchanan-Social Studies/English

Iíve taught sixth grade for twenty-one years and fifth grade for a year.  This is my nineteenth year in Maize.  I graduated from KU, and most of my former students are huge Jayhawk fans!  I have a B.S.E. with minors in multidisciplinary and social studies. and a M.S. from WSU.  My husband, Tom, teaches P.E. at Pray-Woodman .  We have two daughters.  Lauren, will be seventeen in October, and a junior this year.  She enjoys softball and basketball.  My other daughter, Caroline, will be fifteen in October.  She will be a freshman this fall.  She dances competitively.  My girls keep me extremely busy!!  I enjoy being with my family, friends, and children!  Iím looking forward to a great year!

Mrs. Sailer-Reading/English/Science

This is my second year at Maize Middle School. My undergraduate and graduate studies were completed at Wichita State University. Those studies have guided my teaching of sixth graders over the past eleven years. My focus has been mainly in teaching reading and writing. Outside of school, my roles as a mother and wife are my main endeavors. My six year old son, Holden, has an enthusiasm for trains like any little future engineer. His younger mechanical minded brother, Cole, constantly has a project to complete. My husband and I relish our family time spent exploring the outdoors. I also look forward to spending a year challenging your youngster.

Mr. Greer-Math/Science

I was raised in Southern Illinois and moved to Bolivar, Missouri to attend Southwest Baptist University. After graduation I taught seventh and eighth grade Social Studies for one year in Stockton, Missouri, then moved back to Bolivar to teach fifth grade Math for seven years. In 1984, after receiving my Masterís degree from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, I took a job teaching sixth and seventh grade Math and Science in Clearwater, Kansas and taught there for thirteen years. This is my seventeenth year in Maize, and I really enjoy the Maize sixth graders!

My wife recently retired as the counselor at Clearwater High School.  My oldest son, Justin, graduated from the University of Georgia and is working in corporate America in the Kansas City area.  Justinís wife (Baylor) also works in corporate America in the Kansas City area.  My daughter, Megan, graduated from William Jewell College and KU Medical School. She is a family practice doctor for Cerner and lives in Liberty, Missouri.  Megan and her husband, Jason (William Jewell), who works at William Jewell College, had my first grandson in October, 2004 and my first granddaughter in October, 2007.  Don't forget to ask me about the latest tricks my grandkids have learned.  My son, Chance, also works in corporate America in Kansas City.  Since my kids left home, weíve replaced them with a few worthless pussycats.

My hobbies include reading everything in sight, recording in my basement studio, and playing acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin and bass in the praise band at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.  I also play banjo, but since I've only played it a couple of years, I don't make as money with it as I do my other instruments.  I play often at the Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Supper near Benton, KS with the Prairie Rose Rangers.  I paid my way through college playing in a bluegrass band at Silver Dollar City, and now I play in a cowboy/bluegrass (moograss?) band called The Home Rangers.
