The Buchanan/Greer/Sailer (BuGS) Team
Sixth graders will be studying math from the Envision textbook series. We will cover all the topics that the state of Kansas says should be covered in sixth grade along with many other strange and interesting things in the world of math.
Homework and Quizzes
Homework and the quizzes make up forty percent of the math grade. Homework assignments will always be due the day after they are assigned. Students will be given time during class to work on assignments. On an average day, an average student will be able to finish the assignment at school. Occasionally there will be an assignment of particular difficulty, or a lesson that takes longer than normal. On those days, most students would have homework.
Parents should feel welcome to examine their child's homework every day before it is turned in. Homework is a work in progress. Many times errors will be made. If a student discovers that he or she is having trouble with something, he or she should ask questions!
Students should never wait until test time for me to find out they are having difficulties. By that time, the damage to their grade has been done. Students should ask questions as soon as they figure out they don't understand something. I believe it is very important that the students ask me about their troubles rather than me seeking them out. I want them to develop responsibility for their own education.
Major tests compose the other sixty percent of the math grade. I will do my best to make sure major tests will not happen on a Monday, but could come on any other day of the week.
Explanation of Grades
HOMEWORK-20 % of the grade. Grade is either 1 or 0. 1 means work is acceptable There may be some errors, but since homework is a work in progress, it is not assigned a percentage. 0 means it is incomplete, work not shown, too sloppy to read, no name, late, not turned in, etc.
QUIZZES-20 % of the grade.
TESTS-60% of the grade.
If you scrolled down this far by accident, this recording is Mr. Greer playing all the instruments and singing all the parts.
